Artist Statement – Hugo Aurelio Toro

Visual art to me is enjoyable and rewarding. It is very satisfying to produce competent art in many forms.

I believe that mental health is critical to our lives and that art plays a big part in protecting us from mental illness. The nice thing is that we can practice art at any stage in our lives to exercise our brains and relax.

Inspiration for my works comes from anyone, anything and anywhere that appeals to me visually. In my travels and just out and about I carry a good digital camera looking to capture interesting compositions and moments. These I use as subject matter in my paintings.

I have been experimenting with art that blends the best from traditional art and digital art. By incorporating my traditional art works with digital ones, new and exciting art is created.

I tutor art students of all ages, from 10 to 100 years. Tutoring people is challenging yet very satisfying. There is a nice feeling when you can see people developing their skills and techniques while having fun.

In addition, I have published true short stories about family life. There are many creative parallels between painting and writing short stories. See hugowrittenart.com
